Taylor Swift Releases New Song – The Archer

Cover art for The Archer by Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift surprised fans today with a livestream on Instagram from the set of a new, undisclosed music video shoot where she talked about her thirteenth year of releasing music, shared her collection of diaries (which she started when she was 13 years old), and revealed four versions of the deluxe edition of her forthcoming album, Lover.

Each deluxe version (available at Target in the US) will feature 30 pages from Taylor Swift’s personal diaries. Original lyrics, exclusive pictures, and diary entries from the last seventeen years of her life are included.

But that’s not it all Taylor Swift talked about…

Track 5 on her albums have traditionally been “vulnerable, personal, honest, emotional songs,” according to Swift. And, “The Archer” is definitely a moody, vulnerable song in comparison to the upbeat pop empowerment tunes she has released so far.

The new song dropped on iTunes and other streaming services as she talked about Jack Antonoff working with her on the fifth track off Lover, called “The Archer.” She clarified, “It is not the next the single…it’s just a glimpse into another side of the album.”

Taylor Swift fans are definitely not going to calm down anytime soon with surprises like this! Click here to stream Archer today.

LYRICS:
The Archer
written by Taylor Swift

Combat
I’m ready for combat
I say I don’t want that
But what if I do?

‘Cause cruelty wins in the movies
I’ve got a hundred thrown out speeches I almost said to you

Easy they come, easy they go
I jump from the train
I ride off alone
I never grew up
It’s getting so old
Help me hold on to you

I’ve been the archer
I’ve been the prey
Who could ever leave me, darlin’?
But who could stay?

Dark side
I search for your dark side
But what if I’m all right, right, right, right here?

And I cut off my nose just to spite my face
Then hate my reflection for years and years

I wake in the night
I pace like a ghost
The room is on fire
Invisible smoke
And all of my heroes
Die all alone
Help me hold on to you

I’ve been the archer
I’ve been the prey
Screaming, “Who could ever leave me darling?
But who could stay?”

‘Cause they see right through me
They see right through me
They see right through
Can you see right through me?
They see right through
They see right through me
I see right through me

All the king’s horses, all the king’s men
Couldn’t put me together again
‘Cause all of my enemies
Started out as friends
Help me hold onto you

I’ve been the archer
I’ve been the prey
Who could ever leave me darling?
But who could stay?

Who could stay?
Who could stay?
Who could stay?
You could stay
You could stay

Combat
I’m ready for combat
