The countdown to Stagecoach 2020 restarts now.
Goldenvoice, the organizers of Coachella and Stagecoach, announced the postponement of the 2020 festivals Tuesday afternoon, amid concerns about the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak.
The organizers took to social media Tuesday afternoon to release the following statement:
At the direction of the County of Riverside and local health authorities, we must sadly confirm the rescheduling of Coachella and Stagecoach due to COVID-19 concerns. While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, staff and community very seriously. We urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials.
Coachella will now take place on October 9, 10 and 11 and October 16, 17 and 18, 2020. Stagecoach will take place on October 23, 24 and 25, 2020. All purchases for the April dates will be honored for the rescheduled October dates. Purchasers will be notified by Friday, March 13 on how to obtain a refund if they are unable to attend.
Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you in the desert this fall.
However, this isn’t the first big shake-up in the festival world. Just last week, South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin and the EDM-filled Ultra Music Festival in Miami both announced they were officially off, due to the outbreak.
And performers such as Pearl Jam and Zac Brown Band have cancelled their tours all together. While Justin Bieber’s massive stadium tour is downgrading to arenas, cutting the seat capacity in half.
The cancellation of one of the biggest country music festivals in the world means fans will have to wait even longer to see Thomas Rhett, Carrie Underwood and Eric Church – assuming that they’ve all been notified of the new October date and are still headlining(?!)
All purchases for April will be honored for the new dates in October, and Goldenvoice will release more information about refunds on Friday, March 13.
Meanwhile, festivalgoers are now scrambling to change or cancel their flights and hotel accommodations for April, and rebook for October.
