My love for Carrie Underwood is well documented, both on this website and on social media. After my big moment with her on stage, and the subsequent bonds I’ve formed with her other ‘champions,’ I had decided this would finally be the year I venture out to Nashville to attend her fan club party. Unfortunately, Covid-19 had other plans. So instead, my first attendance at a fan club party consisted of me lying in bed watching a livestream of her first ever virtual fan club party hosted on her fan club website.
Before I dive into my experience and feelings about all of it, there’s a bit of breaking news to announce. During a fan Q&A session, where fans in attendance submitted their questions through her website in advance, one question asked if Underwood would ever release a Christmas album. She said “well…” and took a brief pause. At that moment, I knew we were in for a huge announcement. She is in fact releasing a Christmas album. No specific details were given other than all the songs are recorded. As long as quarantine ends relatively soon, I don’t see any reason why the album can’t be finished and released by the holiday season in 2020.
Speaking of the Q&A, I did submit two questions that weren’t answered, and that’s OK. Considering the stream topped out at around 1,300 people at one point, she couldn’t possibly get to everyone’s questions. I was just happy to be invited to the party, I don’t need to be the center of attention. The same can be said of the raffle that was conducted, of which I didn’t win any prizes. I was given the prize of a lifetime in May 2019, I’m good. The fact that I’ve even been fortunate enough to see her in concert 5 times, meet her twice AND sing with her is more blessed than a large portion of her fan base.
As for the concert portion, she was incredible as usual. I may have seen her 5 times, but she included songs in this set that I’ve never been able to hear live. I concur with some fans on social media, between this, Stagecouch and the ACM at-home concert that replaced this year’s postponed awards ceremony, an acoustic album or tour would be a refreshing and welcome change to what fans are accustomed to seeing from Underwood. I’m glad I was able to witness this unprecedented event. Next year though, I intend to be in Nashville seeing all of this live.
