If you know country music, you know Morgan Wallen. Although fairly new to the country music scene, he already has several GOLD, PLATINUM and MULTI-PLATINUM singles, has toured with Luke Combs, and continuously releases chart-topping music. He’s also a proud new dad to a little boy, Indigo Wilder, who was born in July. After welcoming son Indy, Wallen said he was a “changed man;” but recent events show that seems to be far from the case.
The 27-year-old singer announced Wednesday (Oct. 7) that he will be stepping out of the country music spotlight to “work on me.” This announcement comes just 1 day after Wallen was dropped from his Saturday Night Live musical appearance after breaking the show’s COVID-19 protocol. Over the weekend, multiple videos were posted to social media showing Wallen partying without a mask, hanging out in large groups, and kissing multiple women. The videos quickly went viral, leading SNL to pull the plug on his highly-anticipated performance.
After the announcement was made that Wallen would no longer be performing, he took to Instagram to address the controversy. Wallen told fans “I think I’ve lost myself a little bit. I’ve tried to find joy in the wrong places, and, I don’t know, it’s left me with less joy. So I’m going to go try to work on that. I’m gonna take a step back from the spotlight for a little while and go work on myself.”
In the nearly 3-minute long video, Wallen speaks out about being dumped from SNL by saying, “I respect the show’s decision, because I know that I put them in jeopardy, and I take ownership for this. I’d like to apologize to SNL, to my fans, to my team for bringing me these opportunities, and I Iet them down.” He also addresses the now-viral social media videos of him partying, by saying his actions were “short-sighted” and have affected his “long-term goals and dreams.”
This isn’t the first time Morgan Wallen has found himself in hot water this year. In May 2020, Wallen was arrested on charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct after an incident at ‘Kid Rock’s Big Honky Tonk & Steakhouse’ bar. The incident quickly blew over after a judge dropped the charges, and Wallen made fun of his mugshot with fans on Twitter.
After announcing his break form the spotlight, many other industry artists such as Miranda Lambert, the ladies of Little Big Town and HARDY, took to social media to show their support for Wallen. Many applauding his “grown-up” decision, and wishing him well on his journey to find himself. And on behalf of the entire Stars and Guitars team, we’re wishing Morgan Wallen the best too!
