The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has affected this Wednesday’s CMA Awards once again, this time in the form of a positive test for one of its scheduled performers. According to CMT, Lee Brice has tested positive for Covid-19 and has therefore canceled his CMA performance. Brice was scheduled to perform “I Hope You’re Happy Now”, his number one duet with fellow CMA nominee Carly Pearce. It is unclear at this time whether Pearce will move forward with this performance solo or if the performance is canceled altogether. According to a CMA spokesperson, Brice learned of the positive test prior to any rehearsals for the performance had taken place. A representative for Brice said that he was not currently experiencing any symptoms and remains in good spirits, while Nashville’s ABC affiliate said that Brice is isolating at home. “I Hope You’re Happy Now” is up for two awards at this year’s ceremony, Music Video of the Year and Musical Event of the Year. Were you looking forward to this performance as much as we were?
UPDATE: Charles Kelley of Lady A has stepped up to fill in for Brice to duet with Carly Pearce on “I Hope You’re Happy Now”.
