Ingrid Andress proved on Friday that her top 10 single ‘More Hearts Than Mine’ was just the beginning, as she released her debut album ‘Lady Like.’ This collection skews more toward piano and orchestral arrangements than the typical guitar-driven country songs. That works in its favor, allowing more emotion to shine through. Andress bucks tradition by leaving her only known song toward the end of the album, allowing listeners to hear everything else she has to offer.
‘Both’ and ‘We’re Not Friends’ act as companion songs, first telling her significant other that she’s done with playing games and wants a commitment, then saying whether that person likes it or not, they are past the friendly, non-committal stage in their relationship. The theme of ‘The Stranger’ goes deeper than just wanting to fix a strained relationship. Instead they want to act as if it’s a brand-new relationship to remember why they fell in love in the first place. But it’s the title track at the end of the album that allows listeners to get a look inside her persona. Society may expect her to act a certain way they feel a female should act, but she intends to act however she pleases. It’s a song like this that will serve her well as she proceeds on the difficult path of a musician.
When this album ended, I was honestly sad, because I wanted it to keep going. Hopefully Andress will make as big of a splash with this whole album like she did with ‘More Hearts Than Mine.’ To listen to ‘Lady Like’ in full, click here.
