Granger Smith Teaches Us About ‘Country Things’

Granger Smith released his latest album ‘Country Things Vol.1’ on Friday. This eight-song collection is poorly written, poorly sung and overall so bad that it’s almost not even worth talking about. I usually try to find the silver lining or positive attributes when talking about an album like this, but Smith really made it hard to do that. He even included a song called ‘Country & Ya Know It’ to the tune of children’s song ‘Happy and You Know It’ and billed it as a duet with his own alter ego Earl Dibbles Jr. That’s like Beyonce recording ‘The Wheels On The Bus’ and billing it as a duet with Sasha Fierce. Seriously? There’s no mystery with any of these songs. You can look at all the titles and know exactly what they’re going to be about. Title track ‘Country Things’ basically lists things that are country with no actual storyline to the song. ‘Mexico’ is almost offensive how culturally inept it sounds. ‘I Kill Spiders’ tries to sound like a sweet tribute to his daughter, but it just comes off as juvenile. I normally say judge for yourself instead of just reading my opinion, but I’ve done you a favor by telling you to not waste your time with this album. If you’re a glutton for punishment, listen to ‘Country Things Vol.1’ here.
