Michael Ray’s leading single off his forthcoming third album, ‘Whiskey and Rain’ just dropped.
Drawing inspiration from his country predecessors, “Whiskey and Rain” tells the story of someone drowning out their painful goodbye with a bottle of bourbon.
“Splash of bourbon in a glass/Yeah pouring something on the pain/Let it drown/Let it drown/Trying to wash away the past.”
Painting the picture of rain hitting a tin roof house while sipping on something strong, we learn that “misery loves company” and the listener can feel the sorrow through the lyrics. As his first single since “Her World or Mine” in 2019, we can hear an evolution in Ray’s music– straying from modern country music and taking us back to its traditional roots. The new track has a nostalgic feel to it, incorporating sounds like the fiddle bringing us back to an older era of country music.
Co-written by Jesse Frasure and Josh Thompson, the new single emphasizes their innate story telling nature while capturing lyrics broad enough in a way that many can relate to. If this single is telling of the rest of the album, we’re excited to hear what’s to come for Michael Ray. Listen to ‘Whiskey and Rain’ here.
