Devin Dawson is back with a brand new six-song EP titled ‘The Pink Slip’, which he released Friday. Dawson is hoping to capitalize on the success of his previous top ten hits, 2018’s ‘All On Me’ and last year’s collaboration with Hardy and Lauren Alaina, ‘One Beer’. It was a little surprising that ‘One Beer’ didn’t make the final cut of this collection, and after listening to the EP in its entirety, maybe he should’ve included it.
Traditionalists would not call this EP country, though it definitely has some elements of modern country. The only song that fits squarely in the genre also happens to be the best song on ‘The Pink Slip’, which is ‘He Loved Her’. Material things don’t matter in life but finding love and making the most of what you have can be the most fulfilling. Dawson takes a similar approach in ‘Range Rover’ detailing how a past relationship wanted him more for his success than him. As you look at the title, you might think that it’s just another country song about a truck, but he took a nice spin on it by telling us how there’s more to him than how much money he has.
There isn’t really a bad song on ‘The Pink Slip’, but there also isn’t anything that I’m rushing back to download or stream again. If there’s going to be another top ten single on this EP, it’ll be up to the audience to decide what song that might be. So without further ado, click here to listen to ‘The Pink Slip’ in full.
