This year’s CMA Awards opened with an all-star performance by Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Brothers Osborne and Ashley McBryde in honor of the great late Charlie Daniels, whom we lost earlier this year. Aldean and the band did a fantastic job performing “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.” The fiddle player lost almost every hair on his bow and Aldean sang like the spirit of Charlie Daniels was inside him. Dierks Bentley, Brothers Osborne and Ashley McBryde also did a wonderful job honoring this great country music legend. Daniels will go down in history as one of country music’s most beloved artists.
Performing another great tribute at the Awards was Little Big Town. They performed “Sweet Music Man” in honor of the legend, Kenny Rogers. Their perfect harmonies and soulful singing made this one of the best moments of this year’s awards. Kenny Rogers will always be a staple in country music history.
Jon Pardi had the honor of playing a tribute song for the late Joe Diffie. When the crowd heard the intro to that song, they went crazy. As the cameras moved around the crowd, you could see every single person singing along. The members of the band were all dancing and singing along, knowing that they were paying tribute to another legend in country music.
Last but not least, performing another standard in country music, were the hosts of the CMAs. Reba and Darius Rucker performed a duet together in remembrance of the great songwriter, Mac Davis. They sang, “In the Ghetto” together. This was another very touching moment at the CMA Awards last night.
