Chase Rice Gives Us Part II of “The Album”

As a follow-up to the surprise album he released in late January, Chase Rice has now released the next part of that collection, titled ‘The Album: Part II.’ “The crazy thing, even more than differentiating from ‘Part I,’ is the four songs are really different from each other. None of them sound like the other songs, which I think is cool. All of them have their own identity,” Rice told Billboard recently.

Rice is correct about each song having its own identity. Though two songs are about a relationship, they are on opposite ends of the spectrum, thematically and sonically. ‘You’ recounts how he doesn’t want to screw up his newfound relationship, so he will put aside his days of hard living if that’s what it will take to keep her. In ‘Break. Up. Drunk.’ it’s clear that whatever he tried didn’t work and now he’d like to forget the pain of their inevitable breakup by getting drunk. The heavier banjo in this song lets it stand out amongst his many drum heavy tracks.

What might be his next big hit though is the anthemic ‘Belong.’ Especially in times like these, people need to not reminisce on the past or look to the future, but live in the moment. “’Belong’ might be the most meaningful song I’ve ever put out.” Rice said in a press release, noting how we are all going to get through this pandemic and for right now, we’re exactly right where we need to be.

Here is the track listing for ‘The Album: Part II’:
1. ‘You’ (written by Chase Rice, Jon Nite, Zach Kale)
2. ‘Break. Up. Drunk.’ (written by Chase Rice, Hunter Phelps, Jordan Schmidt)
