Carly Pearce More Confident on Sophomore Release

It sure seems like Carly Pearce is in love and thriving. One half of country music’s newest it couple released her long-awaited self-titled sophomore album on Valentine’s Day, and Michael Ray’s influence on the direction this collection took cannot be ignored. Beginning with the Top 40 hit from late 2018 “Closer to You,” Pearce takes us on a journey through her then-budding relationship. Although the two hadn’t gotten married yet when they recorded one of the album’s two duets “Finish Your Sentences,” it is clear they were exactly where they needed to be for a long-lasting union.

Pearce also does quite a bit of reflection on this album. Both “Halfway Home” and Top 20 collab with Lee Brice “I Hope You’re Happy Now” look back on losing a love, but never apologizing for being who she is. It’s that kind of confidence that led her to the love she has now. But love isn’t the only thing she is looking back on. “Dashboard Jesus” highlights her journey to Nashville, while Pearce says “It Won’t Always Be Like This” is a special song with an even deeper meaning since the untimely passing of her producer on this record, Busbee.

Overall, if you’re into the pop-country detour the mainstream genre has taken in recent years, you’ll love this album. It is powerful, flirty, vulnerable and confident all at once. It will be interesting to see where her music leads in the future. Click here to listen to the sophomore self titled album Carly Pearce.
