After releasing two singles in 2020, Zac Brown Band has unveiled their latest single ‘Same Boat’, a hopeful tale about how we need to treat each other with respect. I’m not going to lie, when this song first started it sounded eerily similar to ‘Chicken Fried’. Frankly, from a musical standpoint, I’m not even sure the song knows where it wants to go. The pacing is off, sometimes it drags, other times it speeds up. I believe in rise and fall and not wanting the music to not be stagnant, but this song is kind of all over the place. The lyrics are fine, and I understand why they would want to put a song like this out now, given what the last couple years in the U.S. have looked like. The song just didn’t grab my attention like it should have. Here’s hoping that their next full-length album has more of a lasting impact than I believe this song will have.
