Richie McDonald Departs Lonestar For A New Band

Credit Billboard

Richie McDonald, longtime lead singer of Lonestar, has left the band for a second time in favor of a new venture. He will now be joining with Tim Rushlow, former lead singer of Little Texas, and Larry Stewart, lead singer of Restless Heart, to form a new trio called the Frontmen of Country. These men have sang together as a group before, but never backed by a full band.

Commenting on his departure from Lonestar, McDonald said in a press release “I’ve been with Lonestar for almost 30 years and have enjoyed my time with the guys. With everything that has happened in the past year, it has made me think about other things I want to do in life. This opportunity with the Frontmen came up, and I’ve decided to go in a new direction. I’ve always enjoyed performing with Tim and Larry, and I can’t wait to see how this new chapter unfolds.”

Fans of Lonestar will remember that McDonald previously departed the group for a few years back in 2007 to release some solo albums. Cody Collins replaced McDonald as Lonestar’s lead singer until 2011 when he returned to make two more albums with the group. “I want to thank my bandmates Dean [Sams], Keech [Rainwater] and Michael [Britt] for a great run. I wish them nothing but the best,” McDonald said.
