Jennifer Nettles accepted the first ever CMT Equal Play Award Wednesday at the CMT awards. There is no one more deserving of this new award than this passionate woman whose efforts for women in country music have shown great dividends this year. “I am so proud to be a part of this legacy of women in country music with you, and I am so proud of the stories that we tell” she said in her acceptance speech. Nettles is not afraid to put people in their place and to seek justice where it is deserved. She believes that women have stories equal or better in quality to tell as men. She is committed to equal radio play, equal artist pay, and equal recognition of all women out there with a story to tell and a song behind it. When listening to her speech at the CMT awards, you could see a sincere and passionate person who really is about equality among the sexes both inside and outside of country music.
