Gone West might now have to be rebranded as Gone South. Two months removed from the release of their debut album ‘Canyons’, Colbie Caillat announced on Instagram Wednesday that her and ex-fiancé Justin Young would both be leaving the band. “Creative partnerships, especially with friends, are both rewarding and challenging at times, and though this was not an easy decision, we know ending the band was the right one,” the post read in part.
Caillat and Young were together for over a decade and engaged for nearly five years, but ended their engagement in April. Upon the release of ‘Canyons’, the pair announced that they were quarantining together amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Though Caillat’s post said the band was over, there has not been a statement from the other two members, married couple Jason Reeves and Nelly Joy, on what their musical future looks like. The statement also says that Caillat and Young are best friends, so it does not seem apparent that either of them are leaving the band due to their breakup.
