For only the second time since its creation, the Academy of Country Music announced Tuesday that it will once again be holding the ACM Awards in Nashville. In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 55th ACM Awards took place from three historic Nashville sites, the Ryman Auditorium, the Grand Ole Opry House, and the Bluebird Café. Those three locations will once again play host to the 2021 ceremony on Sunday, April 18 at 8 p.m. EST.
Because the ACM has sought to highlight West Coast-based country music, the awards have always taken place in either Los Angeles or Las Vegas. Besides last year, the only time that the awards show has ever taken place outside of one of those two cities is when it was held in Dallas for the 50th anniversary in 2015.
“A huge thank you to the city of Nashville, Grand Ole Opry House, Ryman Auditorium and Bluebird Café for welcoming us back to Nashville, where we can look out for the safety of our artists while shining a spotlight on this vibrant city after a tough 2020,” said Damon Whiteside, CEO of the Academy of Country Music. It is unclear at this time what protocols will be in place to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance. It should be noted though, that the Grand Ole Opry House and Ryman Auditorium have recently resumed having a limited number of fans in attendance for some performances.
